This is the Place

I am behind in getting things posted but we have been up to a lot lately and I wanted to share all of the fun we have been having with Ya’all. (I know that the one or two people who read this are thrilled). Anyways, Last Thursday me and a few of my kids (Cub was at school and Travis was at work) had the opportunity to join a field trip to This is the Place Historical Park. I really was amazed at all they had up there and we had a lot of fun, though I wish we could have stayed all day. Alas, as goes my life I didn’t have time, or the bread, to pack lunches to bring with us and so once the kids got “starving” we had to head back home. Maybe someday we will have to go back as a whole family and spend [...]

Good news, bad news for Tracy (mostly good!!)

The good news is that Tracy and i were able to have an encouraging conversation with her surgeon today.  The bad news is, her MRI results will not be available until early next week.  That leaves us with some answers but not all of them.
Here’s what we know:

Tracy’s surgeon is confident that her prognosis is good.
Surgery will come soon, pending the MRI results and treatment options (could be next week, no later than three weeks?).
The surgery may be less painful than the biopsy (wow!).
Tracy should be able to travel to Virginia for Thanksgiving - by car, no less.
Four to six weeks of radiation will be part of the package.
We are encouraged and humbly thankful.

What we don’t know:

What will be the extent of the surgery.
The stage and progress of the cancer, the surgeon expects to call on Monday night.
Whether the cancer has affected the lymph system.

What we’re sure of:

God is good and [...]

ReStart

hari sabtu, 1 november 2008…

Timing is Everything

Boy I timed that just right - I dare anyone to do better next Halloween.  I watched Halloween 1, 2 and 20 tonight because it is, of course, Halloween.  It is five minutes before midnight - the official end to Halloween and the last movie is just to the point where she is about to cut Michael’s head off so it will end at the same time the holiday does.  Pretty cool huh?
Halloween use to be my favorite holiday because people got dressed up silly and made fools of themselves in a good way.  Now I am more into Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Thanksgiving because I have so much to be thankful for and Christmas because it is a reminder of Jesus’s birth, death and resurrection.
This year we are all going down to my youngest sister’s house.  We have never been to her house for any holiday so this will be [...]

Ghost Train

Ghost Train is an annual Halloween themed event that takes place in Vancouver’s Stanley Park. Every year a train takes passengers through Stanley Park on a scary themed ride; this year’s theme was ‘Ghost Pirates’ and by the response of eager train goers it was a hit.
Ryan Lowe hops on the train and witnesses the scary ghost pirate spectacles: Blackbeard searching for treasure, hanged men from the trees, silhouettes of tall ships in the distance and treasure buried somewhere in the park, all under an eerie moon. Carrie Nimmo of Mortal Coil Performance Society says she “became inspired by pirate ghosts by her six year old son…Every year we think of something new, and I was reading a pirate story to my son and he got all excited, and I was like wow, this could be really exciting!”
The ghost train started in 1999, and every year since, along with Vancouver [...]

Photo essay~halloweenies and karaoke queenies

It was the night of Halloween and all through the house… there wasn’t anyone in the house!
Because I finally got that camera operation down and so, I joined the human race outside, and watched Doug pass out candy to the multitudes of costumed superheroes, gross ghosts, bugs, fairies, and even a tall hairy wherewolf.
I took pictures with the new baby (my new camera)  So I don’t think I can go back to the old camera.  This one rocks!  I snapped more than this but I played around too much and didn’t focus on composition.  Enjoyeth.

Halloween 2008

I hate this costume on him. ugh!  It was scary enough without the fake blood pumping throughout the mask.  GROSS.
He scared all the little children with it!  At one point I was telling him, here comes a baby, quick take the mask off before the baby cries!

Doug was great about being the candy [...]

End of the World? No, It’s Just the Economy

By Christopher Gabriel, CGabriel.com
As one who has been around the block a few dozen times, I’ve seen our country weather many things.  Vietnam, the Iranian hostage crisis, Desert Storm, the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and certainly others that have both united and divided us.  In every case however, individually and collectively, we made it through.  No matter how dire the circumstances, there was always a light.  Dim or nearly burned out, we found the glow and moved forward as a nation.
Apparently, depending upon who you listen to, that will not be the case with the current economic predicament we now find ourselves in.
You can’t turn on local or national news without hearing various financial experts speak about the economy as though our world is about to end.
One analyst after another is trotted out on FOX, CNN and MSNBC like contestants in a beauty pageant on The Twilight Zone not [...]

Our Family Observance of Reformation Day

Our day started early with Will playing “A Might Fortress” on the piano. The organ sound setting gave it a real Reformation feel. This commenced a full day of home-schooling (you know how strong the Reformers were for education) and Reformation themed activities and discussion.
While searching for
we watched
Of course our two Legomaniacs loved it!
After school we all went to a nearby State Park for the first annual “Anabaptist 1 Mile Fun Run.” (We thought the name “Tiptoe Through the Tulips Fun Run” might be more appropriate, but didn’t want to give the wrong theological impressions. Besides, take out the word “fun” and its still historically accurate!)  It was Dylan’s first long run, and he was so proud that he finished his mile. (He and Will are both enjoying running.)
We came home for a meal of Wittenburgers, Heretic Fries (that’s what happens when you burn one at the stake), [...]

October 31st, Time to play dress-up!

Well, well, well, it’s that time of the year again.  Time to dress up the cat.  No, she is not liking it at all.  I took the costume off nearly as soon as a put it on.
Today being Halloween, we all prepared for the main event tonight.  My sister C made cupcakes that were made with splenda(R)  and had a bat design on the top.  There were really good to eat.  I painted my nails black.  My sister and her hubby decorated the yard with Halloween decorations.  The trick O treaters started swinging by the house about 7 o’clock.  Every time the doorbell rang we all ran to see what costumes the children were wearing.  We had chocolate martinis for before dinner cocktails.  Decorated ourselves with fake tattoos and we swung by the VFW to eat, there were seven of us.  We enjoyed a good meal and afterwards headed over to [...]
