A friend of this forum has issued a challenge to his readers. Seems Jim wants to compare computer desktops. While I hardly qualify as one of his fellow bibliobloggers, I am also not one to shrink from a challenge.
Another friend of this forum picked up and further threw the gauntlet. Given the quality of Scott’s readership and the intellectual depth of his online ruminations, I assume that he extends the challenge generically. (What I mean is, for a theologian, Scott makes a great hockey goalie. And vice-versa.)
Jim, Scott, here is what I look at all day at work. Well, when I’m not busy making nuclear power safe for democracy. (Or something like that)
Watching Big Brother watching me
When the network computer just won’t do, I have this–my employer’s computer–to look at. Guess which one I use, and which I leave on the desktop with no open apps, or at least with everything minimized. I [...]

In all seriousness, I think I’ve had some pretty well-thought-out posts, lately. And I know I’ve received some interesting comments on a few.
Today, I’m just not feeling it.
So, I’ll leave you with the update that the Hubby’s mom is doing well, and on the road to recovery. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers via here, Facebook, Twitter and the like. I intend to print them out to share with her.
I know I have more vacation stories, Halloween stories and such to share, but my brain isn’t able to complete a thought, or stay on… Oh look, a snowflake!

At Elizabeth’s preschool they were asked to count their blessings. Her answer? “Everybody and bagged ice.” Bagged ice? We have an icemaker! Where do kids come up with these things? One of her classmates (the only other one to give a non-standard answer) was thankful for his mom, dad and fruit vitamins. I love kids.
I am thankful for many things including my family and friends, my church, my home and job and for my health. It’s easy to lose track of what is important nowadays so before you get too wrapped up in turducken, mashed potatoes and Black Friday, pause and remember what is really important in life. Hint…you can’t get it at Wal-Mart.

My blogging is so up and down lately but this week has been full of drama - and not good drama - so I haven’t felt like blogging. Mum had a “turn” on Tuesday night which was horrible to see the aftermath of but she has “come good” for now. Horrible, horrible. You think you are prepared for everything and then when something happens & you see a loved one looking so “unalive” and vulnerable it’s just so devastating - I thought I’d cope fine but, of course, I didn’t. At least she is back to “normal” for her now.
I have been working on my charity knitting and not much else - I am enjoying the slow rhythm of the scarf, the bottle green colour and the feeling of the plain & purl stitches under my fingers. I am enjoying the cold, wet weather. I am enjoying 2 CLEAN & [...]

O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love. Psalm 59:17
The world provides us with great challenges and opportunities that we can choose to accept and plow through with great vigor or we may view these challenges as well as the opportunities as roadblocks. I follow in my dad’s footsteps of working hard brings reward as well as leaves a legacy for other family members. Really not just family members, but those people who we come in contact with and they are watching and listening to our lives. I have always considered myself a person who does not shy away from challenges, but a person who puts the work in to make sure tasks are done well. As a coach I tell my teams if you want to reach a consistent level of winning just listen [...]

Ok, I will start with a confession. My original post was titled “It Only Takes A Spark” (Iknow). Remember that campfire song? It goes something like this - “It only takes a spark, to get a fire going and soon all those around will warm up in its glowing….” I was looking for a title for this posting when these lyrics popped into my head. (So did Pass It On but that is soooo cliche’ I just couldn’t do it.) It’s been decades (ouch) since I sang this song. I gave little thought to the words at the time as a typical self-involved teenager. But today I somehow get it.
Maybe it was the interview with Maya Angelou I heard this morning on The Diane Rehm Show or perhaps it is the season, but I sense something going on here, an undercurrent. It feels like a grassroots movement in direct contrast to the state of the nation. The start [...]

…so SOMEBODY better make up for lost time unless you want me to keep complaining about this shit. Anyways, here’s a list of all the stuff I wanted as a kid but never got from Santy Claus.
1. EZ Bake oven. Because as my mom said, “We have an oven in the kitchen and it’s 100 times bigger.” That’s not the point, mom. The point is that the EZ Bake is 100 times smaller.
2. Some sort of Barbie convertible. I didn’t get one as a kid and so I made my Barbies a car out of Lego, which looks even stupider than it sounds considering the wheels were shaped like rectangles. Vroom Vroom MY ASS.
3. BeDazzler refills. Because I spent all my time dazzling on a piece of scrap cloth for practice and now I have the skills but no dazzles. SAD FACE.
4. That Beauty and the Beast mirror that talks to [...]

I challenged myself a few weeks ago to bake one thing every day. My hope was to develop a habit of baking in order to save us money.
Well, I was not as disciplined as I had hoped. Some days I met my goal. Other days I baked three items and about made myself crazy. Still other days I baked nothing at all.
But I did achieve the desired result. Baking seems more easy to me now. It does not take so much energy or stress for me to bake something when needed. This is coming from a tomboy at heart who’s only true C in school was in cooking.
If I had not acquired this habit several weeks ago, I’d be in trouble now. Our pantry is low, with no snacks or bread. However, each day my family enjoys something like fresh bread, pound cake, cinammon rolls, or sugar cookies. It’s not [...]
